The National Programs of the MFF 2021-2027 for the Area of Internal Affairs 2021-2027 – the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI) and the Internal Security Fund (ISF) – were approved by the EC in 2021 with amounts of €67.67 million and €41.37 million, respectively.

Portugal Protege 2021-2027 is the brand developed within this framework with the goal of reaffirming the country’s European positioning and its commitment to security policies and the integrated management of borders.

The ISF aims to contribute to ensuring a high level of security in the Union, particularly by preventing and combating terrorism and radicalization, serious and organized crime, and cybercrime, supporting and protecting victims of crime, as well as through preparation and protection against security-related risks and crises and their effective management within the scope of the applicable regulation.

The BMVI aims to ensure an integrated European border management that is strict and effective at external borders, thereby contributing to guaranteeing a high level of internal security within the Union while simultaneously safeguarding the free movement of people within it and fully respecting the applicable Union acquis and the international obligations of the Union and its Member States arising from the international instruments to which they are parties.
